Our dear Doug passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife Tina (Pluim) of 47 years, and his sons Tyler (Katherine) and David.
He will be sadly missed by his sister Dee (John) Hall, brothers-in-law William (Carolyn) Pluim, Wietze (Bea) Pluim, Albert (Susan) Pluim, and special niece Ana Marie Prankie, along with many other nieces and nephews spread throughout Canada and the U.S. Doug had a special place in his heart for his Uncle Ted and Aunt Jean (Tadgell).
Doug was born in Hamilton, Ontario April 4, 1950. He worked for the Hamilton Board of Education as a teacher, guidance counselor and coach until he retired 15 years ago, whereupon he moved to Port Elgin, Ontario and lived there for 7 years. His final years were spent living in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, BC.
He had a passion for playing tennis, biking, kayaking, gardening and American College Football.
A very special thanks to Anne & Roger Jinks and Oceanside Palliative Care and Hospice Nurses and Doctors. Thanks to these caring people, Doug was able to stay in his home during the entire 3 months of his illness.
Cremation has taken place, and a date for a private memorial service back in Ontario will be set later.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oceanside Hospice or a charity of your choice.
