George Walter Frederick Evoy

Born December 4, 1940 in Norwich, Ontario, Fred passed away at home, held and kissed with so much love by his family, on his 78th birthday, only 3 weeks after his diagnosis of lung cancer.

Predeceased by his parents Dolores and Fred Evoy, and his first wife Gerlinde in 1976 and infant son Colin in 1971.  Fred leaves behind his adoring family, his wife of 41 years, Bonnie, daughters Tanya (Shaun), Brandi (Greg) and son Colin, as well as grandchildren, Cassie, Taylor, Sarah, Hannah, Damian and Tyler who all adored their Papa.  Also survived by Fred’s sister Marilyn (Murray), sister and brother-in-law Robie and Allan (Karen) and many, many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Fred’s entire working career was with Trans Canada Pipeline, until he retired in 1998 as Manager of Safety and Technical Training.  With TCPL he was transferred across Canada from Toronto, to Falcon Lake, Manitoba, to Dryden, Ontario, back to Toronto, then Calgary, making many friends along the way.  Retiring in 1998, Fred and Bonnie moved to beautiful Vancouver Island.  They enjoyed their 13 years in Nanoose Bay, then Qualicum Beach for the past 7 years.

Fred remained very strong, healthy and active in his retirement with four particular passions.  Number one was his family, he always enjoyed his grandchildren’s sports pursuits immensely, even attending a game a week before he died.  Second, as a pilot, Fred devoted thousands of hours managing the Qualicum Beach Flying Club for some 18 years.  Third, Fred was also very active in playing softball with PGOSA and other teams, going to the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, Utah every year, including this past October.  And Fred’s fourth passion was genealogy, spending countless hours in his “man cave” researching family history, as an active member of the Qualicum Beach Family History Society.

Fred was a very special man, a quiet, kind and gentle soul, unassuming, warm, with a deeply compassionate and understanding nature.  Fred never judged or had an unkind word to say about anyone, he was extremely generous and thoughtful.   He was well respected by his flying club colleagues as a man of great integrity and honesty, known for being trustworthy and dedicated.

Fred loved to laugh, he always had a smile for everyone and a wonderfully goofy sense of humour, with a playful, generous loving heart and wise spirit. An incredibly patient handyman, Fred could build decks, fix cars and appliances, and repair anything he put his hand to.

This most cherished and beloved man will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Fred’s life will be held on  Friday, December 14, 2018, at 1:00 PM at the Qualicum Beach Flying Club, just past the Qualicum Beach Airport Terminal.  Please come and share your favourite memories of Fred.  A light lunch will be available.  Weather permitting, there will be a Fly-Past at 2:00 PM in Fred’s honour.
