Lorne Barbour Obituary

It is with deep sadness in my heart that I am announcing the passing of my best friend and husband of fifty-one years, Lorne Barbour. He was the beloved father of our son David, of our special daughter, his niece, Marnie, a good friend to her husband Andrew, and grandfather to their two children, Jenna and Jacob.

Lorne’s career in Supply Management began when he was fifteen, working in various northern Canadian mines and culminated in Chile where he lived with his family and worked seven years for Escondida, the largest copper mine in the world.

He then moved with his wife, Mimi, to Guinea in West Africa for two years to work and live, relying on a lifetime of management experience to navigate the challenging world of mining in West Africa. Later, multiple consulting positions saw the end to his professional life.

During his later years, he travelled and began following his favourite pastime - educating himself about everything possible, especially the emergent fields of computers and technology. He loved to learn, and so he read and watched numerous educational shows and documentaries to help in this endeavour. Cooking was also a love of his, and fortunately for his family and friends, he made every meal taste incredible.

So many will miss Barbour dreadfully, his droll wit, his ability to get to the heart of any discussion and his quietly generous and kind heart... most especially those of us who were closest to him.
