Vernon Lyle Horne

Vernon Lyle Horne was born in the early hours of August 31st, 1946 at Vancouver General Hospital, and passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday May 6th, 2019 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, age 72. Lyle spent his formative years in Saskatchewan (Rosthern, Laird, and Saskatoon) before setting off for executive sales positions in Winnipeg and Greater Vancouver. After a successful
40-year career, he and Kathy retired to Qualicum Beach. An exceptional cook and generous host, Lyle loved nothing better than to share a good meal and bottle of wine with his family and friends.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ann Horne.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Kathy Horne; daughters Lindsay Loomer (Geoff) and Dana Horne; son Scott Horne (Heidi); grandchildren Donovan, Maia, Nathaniel, Brooklyn, Taylor, Samuel, Kennedy, and Jackson; sisters Verna Dudley and Janis Horne (Art); niece Jennifer Lauren; nephews Bryan Dudley, Joel (Jill) and Blake (Jane) Turner; mother-in-law Marg Akeroyd; sisters-in-law Carolyn Wormald (Gary) and Debra Kensett (Dick); extended family and countless friends whom Lyle loved like family.

Sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire 6th floor care team at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their dedication, attentive care, and kindness towards Lyle over multiple stays in the past few years. Thank you also to all who visited Lyle at home and in hospital, and for the calls, cards, prayers, and support offered to the family at this difficult time.

A celebration of Lyle’s life will take place over the summer. The family encourages those wishing to make a memorial contribution to consider a tribute gift to Diabetes Canada or the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation.
