Aldwin 'Aldy' Walter Meinhardt

Aldy passed away peacefully at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay on Vancouver Island at the age of 80.
Graduating from John Oliver High School in 1963, he spent the next four years at the University of Washington (UW) on a swimming scholarship. After graduating from UW in 1967, Aldy obtained his master's in education at the University of Victoria (UVIC).
Aldy had a long career as a teacher at several Vancouver West Side high schools.Aldy was highly respected as a competitive swimmer, who represented Canada at the Commonwealth Games in 1962, and at the Pan American Games at Sao Paulo in 1963. He was the first Canadian to swim the I 00-metre butterfly in under one minute.
Aldy was intelligent, witty and had a keen memory which he often showed playing Trivia Pursuit at the UBC pub. He had a love for sports cars of which he enjoyed many.
Aldy was predeceased by his parents, Louie and Tassie Meinhardt and sister Ingrid. He will be remembered by his brother and partner, Keith and Sharen, nephew Michael, and nieces Marnie Amber and Leah.
