Obituary

With love and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Ann Chalmers on September 24, 2026, in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, at the age of 85. Ann is survived by her daughter Janet (Art), her son Mark (Leane), and her grandchildren Ashton, Cody, Chelsea, and Josh. She also leaves behind many close friends who became, in every sense, part of her family.

Ann was born on September 7, 1941, in Newcastle, England, where she spent her early years. It was in Newcastle, while working at the Co-op, that Ann met George. They fell in love and were married, beginning a partnership that would last 55 years.

In her late twenties, Ann and George made a life-changing decision to leave England and begin a new life in Canada. They landed in Vancouver and soon began building a home and a family. They raised their children, Janet and Mark, in Richmond, creating a loving and busy family life filled with friends, laughter, and many wonderful memories. In 1991, Ann and George settled in Tsawwassen, where they enjoyed wonderful years together. After George’s passing, Ann remained in Tsawwassen for several years before moving to Qualicum Beach in 2025.

Ann had a generous heart and a strong sense of community. She was a leader with Girl Guides and spent many years working and serving others. Over the years, she worked at BC Tel as a comptometer operator, as well as in retail at Zellers and Woodwynn’s, and later at the post office at Shoppers Drug Mart before retiring.

Ann was a woman with a strong spirit and strong opinions, and she was never afraid to speak her mind. She had a personality that made her memorable, and those who knew her well knew exactly where she stood. Her strength, independence, and spirited nature were an important part of who she was.

Ann loved travelling, puzzles, reading, and knitting, but above all she loved spending time with her family, friends, and grandchildren. She had a special love for animals of all kinds and could often be found feeding the crows or the neighbourhood cats.

Friendship was a very important part of Ann’s life. She was fortunate to have many close friends whose relationships began in England and continued for decades after she moved to Canada. The Liptons, Joyces, Flemings, Bakes, Maddocks, Kings, Redheads, and many others became like family to Ann and George. Together they shared family vacations, celebrations, parties, laughter, and countless memories. These friendships brought Ann so much happiness throughout her life.

Ann leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

The Chalmers family would like to thank everyone for their love, kindness, and support during this difficult time. Your thoughts, memories, and friendship mean so much to us and are deeply appreciated.
