Carol Ann Manchester passed away on August 3, 2026, in Nanaimo, B.C., after a second battle with cancer.

Carol was born in Ottawa in 1951, the “Ray of Sunshine” of Gladys and Lorne Manchester. Carol grew up in Ottawa, attending Fisher Park High School. Throughout her childhood, she and her brother John spent summers visiting family in the Maritimes, where she developed a love for eastern Canada. She later spent significant time in Nova Scotia visiting cousin Bill Manchester and his spouse, and Carol’s dear friend, Carola.

As a child father Lorne encouraged Carol in many activities, fostering in her a particular love for horseback riding. Carol was active in many other activities, including downhill skiing.

Carol began her professional career with Met Life as a data entry clerk and, through hard work and industriousness, advanced to the position of software programmer. Her distinguished, 35-year career ended with retirement in 2011.

In the early 1990s Carol joined Emerald Links Golf Club in Greely, Ontario, where she met the love of her life, Mike Kennedy. Up to and following their 1998 marriage, together they built a wonderful life around their shared passion for golf, family and world travel. Over the years, their adventures took them to Tanzania, Greece, Egypt, Viet Nam and most recently to China.

Carol and Mike’s venturesome nature resulted in extended stays in Panama and Mexico before finally settling permanently in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. There they built a new life around golf, hiking (followed by a mandatory hot fudge sundae!), deep sea fishing and the company of a delightful group of new friends.

Carol will be remembered by all who knew her for her lovely disposition, keen intellect (she regularly beat Mike in quiz shows!), kind nature, beautiful smile and ever-present sense of humour.

Carol’s loss is deeply mourned by loving husband Mike, stepchildren Regan (Josh) and Ryan (Joseph), cousin Bill and Mike’s entire family: Lee, Cecile, Carol, Charlton, Maureen, Rosemary, Norm, John and Charlotte.
