Obituary

It is with much sadness that we share the passing of Tina Klymchuk (née Barber), a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished sister and aunt, and lifelong friend. She lived with curiosity, compassion, integrity, and a quiet determination that touched all who knew her. After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by love.

She is predeceased by her father, Earle, her mother, Margaret, and her sister Julianne. She is survived by her husband, Roy; her children Spencer and Laura; her sister Bette; her nephews Lucas and Daniel; and her great-nieces Margo and Cecilia.

Tina was born in Ottawa and, after her fifth birthday, lived in Tanzania and Belgium. During those early years, she was fortunate to travel throughout parts of Africa and Europe, experiences that nurtured a lifelong curiosity about the world and other cultures.

Tina pursued her love of teaching and was an elementary school teacher in Richmond for over 29 years. Teaching was more than a profession for her—it was a calling. She believed deeply in the potential of every student and approached her work with patience, integrity, and encouragement. Students, colleagues, and friends naturally turned to her for guidance, inspired by her warmth, wisdom, and steady presence.

She met the love of her life, Roy, and together they raised their two children in Tsawwassen. Later, they retired to Vancouver Island, where Tina embraced opportunities to contribute to her community. Among her interests, she cherished participating in a book club and bridge, enjoying both the mental challenge and the inspiration she drew from her connections with others.

Though thoughtful and principled, Tina also had a lively sense of fun and made a point of enjoying life. She loved to travel and had a deep affection for her pets, especially Riley and Normie, who brought her great happiness.

Tina will be remembered for her generosity, compassion, curiosity, and integrity, and for the quiet determination and dignity with which she lived her life. Her influence will continue to be felt in the many students, colleagues, friends, and family members whose lives she touched.

Roy and the family will forever cherish the love, wisdom, and kindness Tina brought into their lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
