David Macgillivray Obituary In Loving Memory of David Alexander MacGillivray It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of David Alexander MacGillivray, who passed away peacefully at his home in Qualicum Beach, B.C., on May 6, 2025. He was 77 years old. David was born on November 19, 1947, in British Columbia to Charles 'Allan' MacGillivray, an Artillery Captain and later a Civil Engineer, and Mona MacGillivray, a keen amateur florist. Growing up as a self-described "base brat," he moved frequently before eventually settling in Oak Bay, Victoria, B.C., and later in the Parksville-Qualicum area. David had a deep appreciation for fishing and nature, though he was a city person at heart. In the early 1970s, he worked as a bartender and developed an eclectic taste in entertainment, enjoying Yacht Rock before it was popular again, as well as British comedy. He was most often found watching Coronation Street or All Creatures Great and Small, crossword puzzle in hand, with a witty quip always at the ready. He also had a keen interest in the engineering and beauty of fine automobiles and aircraft. An avid cook, David mastered his skills from chefs he worked alongside in the restaurant and hotel industry. He was perfectly at home making a hollandaise sauce for Eggs Benedict or a Barnaise sauce for steak. David will be deeply missed but never forgotten. He is survived by his children, Lisa and Christopher; his grandchildren, Sara and Grace; and his sisters, Letty, Patricia, and Moira.
