Douglas 'Doug' Murray Obituary Douglas (Doug) John Murray
August 2, 1941 February 4, 2025
It is with saddened hearts that we let you know that Doug passed away in Nanaimo on February 4 after
a lengthy illness. Doug was born in Pouce Coupe, B.C. After a few years of living in the Northern part
of British Columbia the Family moved to Vancouver Island and settled in Nanaimo. For the past 25 years
Doug was a resident of Qualicum Beach.
Predeceased by his parents David and Violet (Jeff) Murray, he is survived by his loving wife Donna, his
son Brent (Karen Allen and her son Mac), sister Alena (Eric Pitt) and their Families, daughter Kristin,
granddaughters Lyssa and Jessica (son Kydon).
In his early years, Doug worked at Harmac and Doman Industries in Ladysmith. He was a certified
millwright and a very accomplished welder, machinist, and mechanic. He established Precision Machine
in Nanaimo in 1973 and after many years sold the company. Following the sale of Precision Machine,
along with his long-time friend Terry Norman, they created the Clearview Satellite Co. In this endeavour,
they were very successful and became the largest-selling satellite dish company in Canada - later selling
to TeeCom Electronics in Toronto.
Returning to the vocation he enjoyed Doug purchased H &J Welding in Nanaimo in 1983 where he
worked until his retirement.
Doug's long-time passion was cars. He had a large number over his lifetime. It is there that Doug's love
for drag racing began. Doug raced and built The Bohemian and the Canadian Cuda. He raced for many
years and then turned his interest to boating. Doug and Donna spent a great deal of their recreational
time cruising the Pacific Northwest.
Once again the call to racing returned and for a number of years he built drag boats and raced in Canada
and the United States. His boat 'Thriller" still holds the record to this day.
In retirement Doug's final racing activity was with his Blown Alcohol Dragster "Thriller IV".
He was thankful for the years he was able to help his son with his race cars and together they went to
many races.
Doug and Donna were able to spend years travelling in their rv's to Arizona. Leaving the rv life behind
they eventually purchased a place in Surprise, Arizona.
Doug was a quiet and private man who loved his Family in his own special way.
The Family would like to express their gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and Volunteers in the Palliative
Care Unit at NRGH for the wonderful care, kindness and respect they gave to Doug in his final days.
Also a special thank you to Dr. J. Bland for his care of Doug over the past years.
No service or memorial by request.
