Douglas Albert Vaughan

Peacefully passed away on September 23, 2026, at Nanaimo General Regional Hospital, after a

lengthy illness, at the age of 70 years. Doug lived and worked in Manitoba, Alberta and BC but

after working at Island Copper in Port Hardy he knew that he wanted to spend his final years on

Vancouver Island. Doug and his wife, Donna Dempsey moved to Qualicum Beach from the

lower mainland in 2016. Following his retirement from Skytrain in 2017 they traveled throughout

Southeast Asia and enjoyed trips to Australia, winter holidays in Mexico and summer vacations

at the cottage in Quebec.

Doug will be remembered for his infectious smile, warm hugs, and sharing photos he took

during his long walks throughout Qualicum Beach and the surrounding trails. He was an active

and enthusiastic member of the Mid Island Walking Club, who were extremely supportive as his

Alzheimer’s progressed. He also loved to connect with his Berwick Park neighbours and staff

and customers at local shops. Donna is very grateful for the kindness and acceptance the

community provided as his disease progressed and for the excellent programs delivered by the

incredible staff at Cokely Manor and Oceanside Recreation Therapy.

There will be no service at this time. Donations may be made to Nanaimor Area Land Trust to

protect Deep Bay or Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
