Eliane Blanche
Caley
April 26, 1925 – November 19, 2025
It is with great sadness we share the passing of our dear and beloved mother at the grand age of 100. Mum left us peacefully at 5:32 Thursday morning, November 19th, in Parksville, BC.
Eliane was born in France on April 26, 1925, in Boulogne–sur-Mer, to Eva and Richard Ringma. The new family of three immigrated to Canada in 1929. Raised in Vancouver, mum had two siblings, Robert (Bob) and Richard (Dick) both born in Vancouver. Eliane and her family endured the disruptions of World War Two. Mum's father, a successful boat builder, ended up purchasing waterfront on Thetis Island where the family gathered for over 50 years.
After graduation, Eliane enjoyed mountain climbing, and was member of the BC mountaineering club. Other pastimes included many adventures with Pip Brock aboard the sailing sloop "Escapade" or power vessel, the "Fleetwood". While Pip was sailing the South Pacific, without Eliane to her considerable dismay, along came Henry Lancelot Steele McCulloch, a recent immigrant from India. Henry, born in India, educated in Britain, the son of an esteemed doctor of Harley Street London, and professional engineer himself, wooed Eliane into marriage. They had four children, first Liane, then Phoebe, and finally identical twins, Richard and Lance. They were all raised at the family home in French Creek, near Qualicum Beach, BC. Henry died in 1978 and Eliane re-married Peter Caley in 1980.
Eliane had a love of nature, especially the ocean. She was an exceptionally determined individual. She loved her children, loved her art, loved her time in nature, her time on the water and time with family. She was very creative, we all looked forward to her annual Christmas card. Intuitive, funny, witty, her kindness and humour will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by all her children, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
May you now be at peace, will join you once again.
We all loved you mum.
