Obituary

In Loving Memory of Elsie Margaret Goebel (née Neifer)

Elsie Margaret Goebel (née Neifer), passed away on October 4, 2026, in Qualicum Beach, BC, at the age of 94.

Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years Peter Jack Goebel (2019), and her youngest son Donald (1999). She is survived by four of her sons: Jack (Karen), Scott (Joyce), Terry (Janet), and Robert (Shirley); as well as nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Lorne Neifer (June).

Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, on May 28, 1932, Elsie was raised by her grandmother, overcoming a childhood of poverty with resilience. As a young woman, she worked for The Hudson’s Bay and was immensely proud of her time as a "Bay girl," a chapter of her life she loved to reminisce about.

Elsie and Peter married on June 28, 1952 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. In 1976, Elsie and Peter moved the family to Penticton, BC, to buy and operate the Stardust Motor Inn. While Peter managed the front desk and books, Elsie was the heartbeat of the operation. She poured her energy into managing the restaurant and organizing banquets proving herself to be an incredibly sharp, hardworking business owner alongside her role as a dedicated homemaker.

Elsie loved to laugh. She had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for her family; she simply could not get enough of them. As a mother and grandmother, she was always keen on doing whatever the kids wanted to do, whether that meant trips to the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), or fun days at the beach.

Elsie found true joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking for her family. She was an avid sports fan who would get incredibly excited watching hockey and various other sports, a passion she enthusiastically shared with Peter. She cherished going out for lunch and sharing laughs with her close circle. Elsie had a profound love for animals, speaking with special pride of Nicky, Wiggles, and Gabby.

Elsie was a woman of strong faith and integrity. She read her Bible, practiced her devotions, and she deeply loved singing at church. She valued genuine, authentic connections, keeping an honest and straightforward approach to life.

Elsie will be interred in Penticton, BC in May 2027 to lay her to rest alongside Peter and Donald. In lieu of flowers, and to honour Elsie’s deep love for animals, donations may be made in her memory to the BC SPCA.
