Obituary

Frank died on November 23, 2014, aged 92, after a relatively short illness. He is survived by his elder brother, Adrian Seymour; daughter Margaret (George); son Bill (Cindy); two loving granddaughters, Gillian and Hilary; niece Ginny Rottenburg and her family; and his dearest companion in many adventures, Elaine Hofer. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Helen Elizabeth (Betty). Together they created a home in the early 1950s in Qualicum Beach which Frank continued to live in until the end of his life. Frank was born in Roehampton, London, England on June 18, 1922 to Captain Conway Hugh Seymour MC and Kathleen Louisa Seymour. He was educated at Cothill House and Radley College in the U.K., Victoria Normal School, and the University of Victoria. His varied career included serving as an apprentice draftsman with Rolls Royce in Derby, U.K., a hard rock miner in the Northwest Territories, a log salvage superintendent for Columbia Cellulose in Prince Rupert and a logging engineer on Vancouver Island, and finally a teaching career in Parksville. During WWII Frank served in the British Merchant Marine as a wireless officer on various freighters and tankers crossing the North Atlantic numerous times. Retirement brought camping and hiking trips throughout Canada and the United States. He also enjoyed woodworking projects, kayaking, gardening and reading. Frank will be forever remembered for his sense of humour, kindness and generosity. There will be no service by request. Donations in Franks name may be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
