George William Cowley passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 78 in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, George spent his early years between Toronto and Newmarket, Ontario. He was the son of the late Jack and Norma Cowley and the eldest of four boys. He is survived by his brothers Glenn Cowley and Bruce Cowley, and was predeceased by his brother Paul Cowley.

George built a long and dedicated career in government service, working in meat inspection and agriculture. Known for his strong work ethic and practical mindset, he retired early at the age of 51. He and his wife Patricia later made their home in Qualicum Beach, BC, where he spent the past 25 years enjoying an active and fulfilling retirement.

A true hands-on individual, George had a lifelong passion for classic cars, even rebuilding his prized 1939 Chrysler Royal Business Coupe. He also had a deep appreciation for antiques, especially oil lamps and was actively involved in various construction projects. A skilled handyman, he rebuilt the family home and beautifully landscaped the property in Cedar Valley, Ontario. After acquiring the Qualicum Beach property, he once again put his construction talents to work, building a separate dwelling complete with a private living suite and workshop. Whether restoring something old or helping someone in need, George took great pride in working with his hands and generously sharing his knowledge.

George was a valued member of his community, actively involved with the Bowser Legion and the local classic car club on Vancouver Island. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or share a story. He will be remembered as a generous, dependable presence and a gifted storyteller who brought warmth and humour to those around him.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Joan Cowley (née Leduchowski); his son, Jonathan Cowley, and his wife, Lori Aldcroft, and their children, Liam and Henry; and his daughter, Cataya Caven.

There will be two Celebrations of Life held for George.

Sunday, June 14th, from 3pm to 6pm at the Cloverdale Legion (17567 57 Ave. Surrey BC), and Sunday, September 13th, from 1pm to 3pm at the Bowser Legion (7035 Island Hwy W Bowser BC).
