Obituary

George Murguly Obituary Obituary for George Murguly George Murguly, 79, of Qualicum Beach, BC, peacefully passed away on February 14, 2025. George leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Suzanne, and his children David (wife Tracy and children Sierra and Jocelyn) and Elisa (husband Larry and children Clara and Renee). Born in Salgotarjan, Hungary on June 12, 1945, George made his way towards Canada in 1956, eventually settling in Vancouver, BC, in 1958. In high school, George shone both academically and athletically, proving to be a gifted middle and long-distance runner. George pursued higher education, earning a degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Despite his scientific prowess, George had a deep love for the arts and was an avid reader and lifelong learner. His vast knowledge made him a fantastic partner for Trivial Pursuit or a Jeopardy session, but he always remained humble and never made anyone feel bad for asking questions. From 1970 to 1985, George worked as an engineer in the mining sector before discovering his true passion for teaching. He spent twenty years teaching Engineering Technology at the College of New Caledonia in Prince George, BC. Outside of work, George was a devoted family man with a zest for sports and outdoor adventures. He had a knack for getting his family lost on his escapades, both literally and figuratively, but always managed to bring everyone home safely. He also loved tennis: playing tennis, watching tennis or just thinking about tennis. His love for the great outdoors was passed down to his wife, children, and grandchildren. George's community contributions were remarkable, from developing the ski hill and tennis courts in Elkford, BC, to lending his lighting and set design expertise to community theatre. He generously shared his knowledge with those eager to learn and helped 'keep the lights burning.' George's memory will never fade, and he will always be remembered for his humble yet enriching contributions to many lives. He never truly understood the extent of his positive influence. He will be dearly missed by all. A private celebration of life will be held in May. Donations in his memory can be made to ECHO Players Theatre Company in Qualicum Beach or to Lung Cancer Canada.
