In Loving Memory of Helen McLoughlin

January 25, 1933 – September 10, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen McLoughlin on September 10, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.

Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, mother‑in‑law, and friend. She was born in Vancouver on January 25, 1933, but was raised from a young age in the Comox Valley, which remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Helen raised her family first in Courtenay and later in Campbell River. She also lived in Whitehorse and Surrey before returning home to the Comox Valley.

Helen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She curled, knitted, played golf, and loved a good game of crib. She was also an exceptional cook, and her kitchen was often the heart of the home. Her fabulous meals were enjoyed by many and were almost always followed by one of her wonderful desserts. Her pies and cheesecakes were especially legendary.

Helen’s love for her family could be seen in everything she did. You could always tell who her grandchildren were by the quality—and sometimes the brightness—of their sweaters, lovingly knitted by their grandmother. Those sweaters, like so many of Helen’s creations, were a reflection of the care and warmth she poured into her family.

Helen will be deeply missed by her six children: Michael (Sheila), Kelly, Dale (Heather), Peggy (Dave), Susan (Danny), and Pete (Lisa); as well as her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.

She is also survived by three of her six siblings: Val, Diane, and Josey.

Helen leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories, countless family traditions, and the love she gave so generously to those around her. Her kindness, laughter, talents, and especially her love of family will remain with us always.

Rest peacefully, Mom. You will be forever loved and remembered.

A Celebration of Life for Helen will be November 8, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Nanaimo Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution the a charity of your choice.
