Howard George Scott

June 22, 1938 – December 13, 2025

Howard George Scott, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at Arrowsmith Lodge in Parksville, B.C. where he had lived for just over a year. Born on June 22, 1938, in Montreal, Quebec, Howard lived a full and meaningful life marked by ambition, dedication, humor, and deep love for family, friends, and a passion for learning.

Howard was predeceased by his Parents, Ward and Violet; by Diane, his beloved Wife of 64 years; and by his brother, Gordon.

He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Shirley; his devoted children, daughter Karen (Mark), and son Brian (Leah); and by his cherished granddaughters, Talisa and Violet (Juan). He also leaves behind special family members Karlina and Liora, along with his Nieces and Nephews—Ron, Lisa, Libby, Mags, Mark, and Greg.

As a scholar and educator, Howard's academic journey began with graduation from McGill University, followed by further studies at the University of Toronto, where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. As a young man, he also graduated from the prestigious Royal Military College in Kingston—an accomplishment that reflected his discipline, intellect, and commitment to excellence.

Howard devoted most of his career to teaching, inspiring generations of students with his passion for maths, sciences and geology, and his gift for making complex ideas accessible and engaging. After teaching at both Riverdale and Forest Hill Collegiate Institutes in Toronto, he later became Head of the Department of Physics at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute, where he was widely respected by colleagues and beloved by students.

In 1980, Howard, Diane, and their family moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. There, he joined Alchem Canada (now Nalco) as a Site Manager, and later found success in Commercial Real Estate, working with Developers throughout the Lower Mainland. Before retiring to Vancouver Island in 1998, Howard returned to the classroom at Sentinel Secondary School in West Vancouver, where he taught Geology. Known throughout his educating career as a favorite teacher to many, Howard's enthusiasm for learning and his genuine care for young people left a lasting impression long after graduation.

To those who knew him best, Howard will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and love of practical jokes—stories that are still shared and laughed about today, many with his dear Ontario family and friends. Even during his later years, as he faced illness, his wit never faded. He delighted in making others smile and found joy in laughter until the very end.

Howard embraced life fully. He enjoyed the game of bridge, hiking, golf, gardening and traveling, especially the many winter escapes he shared with Diane, friends and family to Hawaii, Arizona, and California. Retirement in Qualicum Beach brought him immense happiness, filled with deep friendships, community, and the simple pleasures of a life well lived.

Above all, Howard was an exceptional Father—a steady source of guidance, encouragement, love and mentorship to Karen and Brian throughout their lives. His pride in them was evident, and his influence remains a lasting gift. As Papa to Talisa, Violet, Karlina and Liora, he is lovingly remembered for sharing laughter, local bike rides, and trips to the beach when they were growing up.

At Howard's request, there will be no service. He was cremated, and his family will honor his memory privately. Howard will be missed dearly and remembered forever in our hearts with love, always❤️
