Ivan Turanec Obituary It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ivan, our
beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ivan
passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, following a brief illness
after having battled dementia for several years. He was born in
Bratislava, in what was the former Czechoslovakia. He left the
country in the late 60s, choosing Canada as his new home. His
dream was to become a pilot. He worked first as a mechanic at a
Mercedes dealership. During that time he worked hard at getting his
pilot's license and learning English. in 1974 he moved to Campbell
River, where he was able to start his flying career, initially loading and
fueling aircraft, and finally, he was turned loose to fly float planes as a
bush pilot for a living. He then continued his career with a Canadian
airline flying commercial flights and subsequently moved overseas to
Switzerland to work as a captain for Swiss Airlines. After retirement,
Ivan spent his time between Palm Springs and Vancouver Island
taking up golf and traveling.
Ivan was known for his big smile and generous heart. He was a
talented pilot a caring friend and we will miss him.
At Ivans request, no formal service will be held. An interment of urn
with close friends and family attending will take place later this
summer.
