After a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by the ones he loved, Jim took his final journey home. Jim served in the Armed Forces for 38 years and was a great friend and mentor to many. No matter who, what, where or when he was needed, Jim, aka 'MacGyver', was always willing to offer not only his opinion, but his ever helping hands.
Jim was never 'humor impaired, nor punch-line deficient' and his witty, sarcastic sense of humor and contagious laugh will ring on in our hearts forever.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet; his adoring children; Lorraine Miller (Rob), Andrea Palamarchuk (Doug), Sandra Mercer, and Bill Mercer (Janice); 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Mercer (Anita); sister, Nadine Coune (Charles); brother and sister-in-law, Sandra and Peter Bazilewich; brother and sister-in-law, Maggie Coleman and Bob Blacklaws; brother-in-law, Jim Fracy; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Marois.
Jim was predeceased by his father, William Mercer; mother and step-father, Ida and Art Brine; brother, Fred Mercer, and mother and father-in-law, Jim and Peggy Fracy.
Jim is loved beyond measure, and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. His legacy will live on forever.
A memorial service will be held for Jim on Wednesday, January 30 at 10:00 am at the Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church, 550 N Pym, Parksville, BC, with Pastor Dave Marttunen officiating.
