Janie Worel Obituary In Parksville, BC, a very strong, determined, matriarchal woman left our World today. A tiny bit of a woman with the heart of a lioness, the talent most will only ever dream of, and a drive and commitment that cannot be taught or coached. Along with those powerful traits she doted on those around her with the understanding of a scholar, the love of all of the poppies of Flanders, and a contagious laugh that could pull you through your worst trip and fall.
Born in Regina, Janie was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Milow. Also her grandfather Andrew and grandmother Harriet. A loving father Albert Andrew and mother Jane Bamford, brothers Bill (Margaret) and Fred (June), sisters Eunice (Bill) and Jessie.
Janie is survived by daughters Lezley (Lee), Mary (Richard), Frances (Lloyd), and son Ralph (Simona).
Grandchildren Aaron, Alec, Korynn, Susynn, and Arjay, as well as many nephews and nieces. A very special thank you to her nephew Herb and his wife Janice and close friend of so many years, Jan.
Janie was a golfer tough to keep par with. A bowler who could strike you down. A competitive canoeist. A voyageur of Saskatchewan's mighty Churchill River system. A runner completing marathons in her 50's. Cross country skiing the western Provinces. A racquetball player who eventually conquered the World, standing atop the podium...World Champion in her early 50's. She never stopped.
If there was one thing Mom always did, it would be that she played by the rules. Not her rules. But by the written rules. Perhaps that's why she was so successful.
A daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, who played each roll to perfection. Forever singing...she traveled extensively singing with the Sweet Adelines.
She and Dad found their Heaven on Earth very early. Hawaii.
One thing we kids never forgot: She could rule the roost with the iron fist of a gladiator.
A long life. Well lived. Well traveled. As she put it, 'Complete. I did everything I wanted to do. We've been so blessed.'
At your request, there will be no funeral. Rest. Relax. Visit. Godspeed to you.
