Jeffrey Temple Obituary It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Gordon
Temple, affectionately known as Jeff. He died very unexpectedly on February 13,
2025, at the age of 71, his wife Catherine and his daughters Sandra and Jen, at
his bedside.
Jeff was predeceased by his mother Phyllis Manels, his father George Temple,
and his stepmother April Temple. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 25
years, Catherine Dempster, and his daughters Sandra (Tony), and Jen (Lee), his
stepchildren Sarah (Jon), Paul (Corilea), Claire (Sean), and grandchildren Olivia,
Luka, Jack, Kai, Kayte, Akaela, Sophia and Rhys. Jeff is survived by his siblings
Susan (David), Rob (Carol), Patti and Kim, and cherished nieces and nephews.
Born on November 26, 1953, Jeff spent his childhood and teen years in Lachine,
Quebec, where many of his schoolmates became lifelong friends whom he
visited and connected with online. In addition to lighthearted mischief with his
brother Rob, Jeff grew up a serious athlete and trained competitively as a
gymnast at Concordia University in Montreal, and later, while studying at the
University of British Columbia. From the late 1970s to early 1990s, Jeff shared
his love of gymnastics and competitions as an athletics coach in Port Alberni and
Qualicum Beach, B.C. He was an inspiration to many young athletes.
As an educator on Vancouver Island, Jeff devoted thirty-five years to teaching
students and colleagues in School District 69. He began as an elementary school
teacher in Bowser and moved on to teach at Qualicum Beach Middle School.
After earning his masters degree, his career included leadership positions with
the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP), and as Principal of
False Bay School on Lasqueti Island. After retirement from School District 69,
Jeff continued to mentor new student teachers during their practicum
opportunities offered through Vancouver Island University.
Jeff kept himself busy with friends and family in his retirement. His hobbies were
many: growing garlic and beans at the community allotment; mountain biking with
his longtime buddies over challenging BC terrains; learning woodworking to build
five classical guitars, like the one he played in a local three-man acoustic band
"The Guitar Guys." And they were good!
Students, friends, and his family remember Jeffrey for his quick wit, sense of fair
play, and his warm heart. His pride in his daughters accomplishments and his
deep love for his wife Catherine were evident to all who knew him. His loyalty
and mentorship will be missed. A private service will be held in April. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to BC Cancer Society.
