John Carson Obituary Bryan Carson July 11, 1941 October 10, 2022 Sue Carson and Beau said goodbye to their best friend, Bryan, on the morning of October 10. A fixture of the Sunshine Coast for more than 50 years, Bryan enjoyed a career in journalism notably as a co-founder of Geist magazine (where one of his gigs was to invent a new crossword puzzle for each issue) and later as a columnist for the Sechelt Press where he met Sue, the love of his life. His wit, hospitality and sense of humour were legendary, with laughter rippling over the many dinners and barbeques hosted at their home, "The Centre of the Universe," in Halfmoon Bay. An early member of the Halfmoon Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Bryan served as the training officer for many years retiring only because "old farts should give way to new guys." Bryan was a founding member, actor and director of the Penninsula Players dinner theatre ensemble which staged performances twice a year. When the Pen Players troupe disbanded, he went on to act in many Driftwood Theatre productions, notably On Golden Pond, in which he was the only cast member without an understudy. His final performance with his "old fart" friends and fellow actors, Three Men in a Boat, was a comic tour de force. Bryan retired his lawn mower and woodpile in 2018, and he, Sue and Beau moved to Qualicum Beach. From this new Centre of the Universe, they explored Vancouver Island by foot and by camper. And they loved it, and loved every minute they shared. He left the best legacy of a life well lived. So many good times, so many friends, so much kindness, so many cherished memories. So glad we had him in our lives. No service by Bryans request. But please, raise a glass to remember a wonderful man.
