Obituary

John Dyson Obituary It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John William Dyson on April 25, 2024. Born in Victoria on March 25, 1935, the third of four children to Oliver William Dyson and Ivy May Dyson. Predeceased by his three siblings; George, Pearl, and Grace, survived by his loving wife Helga and lovingly remembered by his 3 sons, John (Arlene), Dwayne (Shelley), Ron (Ana) and his grandchildren, Crystal, Mark, Liam, Jamie & Matthew. Special thanks to the wonderful people at the Nanaimo Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the compassion and comfort they provided our father in his final days where he passed away peacefully. Dad (John Willy) was a career 'Navy Man'. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy on Jan. 21, 1959. He served on many ships including the HMCS Bonaventure 1959-60, HMCS Victoriaville 1960-63, HMCS Columbia 1963-64, HMCS Yukon 1967-71, HMCS Terra Nova 1972-73 and completed his sea time as Engineer Officer aboard HMCS Terra Nova from 1976-79. The Dyson family has owned property in Qualicum Beach since 1961. John & Helga absolutely loved living by the beach and made Qualicum their permanent home in 1984. The family has many fond memories of time spent with 'Opa and Oma' on the beach! Dad had many hobbies and pastimes including salmon fishing (Affectionately known as DogFish Dyson), gardening, but his absolute favourite was golf. He was an excellent golfer. At the same time Dad was the proud holder of both the Atlantic Command and Pacific Command Golf trophies. A celebration of life will be held for family and close friends on June 16, 2024. 'Fair winds and following seas Dad. You will be sadly missed and always in our hearts.' O Eternal Lord God, who alone spreadest out the heavens and rulest the raging of the seas; who has compassed the waters with bounds until day and night come to an end; be pleased to receive into Thy Almighty and Most Gracious protection the persons of us Thy servants, and the fleet in which we serve. *Navy Prayer*
