Obituary

We are saddened to share the sudden passing of John P. Lundine on November 2nd, 2025. John was born on May 30th, 1950, in Port Alberni to Everett and Margaret Lundine. One of five brothers, John grew up in Parksville, spending summers on the beach and developing the sun-loving nature that stayed with him through life.

In 1970, John married Judy, his partner in every sense of the word. They moved out to the West Coast, and lived in Ucluelet for two years before landing in Hilliers, and opening the Wooden Nickel with brother David in 1975. This fine old furniture store business became their livelihood and a reflection of their shared creativity. John was a smart and savvy businessman who took pride in his work and left a lasting impression on many who walked through the door.

John was a sweet, talented, kind, funny, and giving man. He was sensitive, thoughtful, and always interested in sparking up a thoughtful conversation. He loved learning and had a natural ability to make one laugh. Music was central to who he was. Whether playing drums, banjo, mandolin, guitar, exploring new sounds, or sharing music with family, friends, or band mates, he approached it with enthusiasm and curiosity. He was an avid walker and tv hockey fan, cheering loudly and offering his unfiltered opinions when compelled.

John is predeceased by his parents and brothers, David and Jim. He will be deeply missed by Judy, daughter Erin, and son Josh, grandchildren, Berit, Leif, Ryan, Quinton, Novalie, brothers Dan and Robert, sisters-in-laws Carol, Vicki, Jeannie, Laurie, brother in law Glenn, and extended family.

Dad had a real appreciation for the small things that make life meaningful and will be forever loved and remembered. A celebration of life will be held in the New Year. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
