John R. B. (Barry) Williams Obituary In loving memory of
John R. B. (Barry) Williams
Sadly passed away at home on 8 March, 2025 (age 94). He is survived by his devoted wife Edith and daughter Lisa; predeceased by son David and fondly remembered by family throughout Canada, the UK, Australia and NZ.
Born in London, England, he came to Canada at the age of 16 and has lived in Qualicum Beach for the past 29 years. Barry loved aviation and spent his working career as an Air Traffic Controller in Toronto, later getting his pilots license and enjoying many hours exploring the skies.
When his feet were on the ground, he steadfastly supported his football team, QPR, and stood by them through thick and thin for over 80 years.
He also had a profound love of Labradors and spent many hours training them for field trials, although, always beloved house pets first, and happy in a circle of good friends.
Over the years, many friends and dogs filled the house with joy, along with the sounds of Big Band Jazz. He had a gifted talent for the drums, keyboard and a mind for arranging beautiful melodies, inherited through the blood of his ancestors.
He will also be missed by many who knew him best as the wittily, humoured gentleman down at the beach with his faithful, black Lab Megan. They did love the sea.
In his usual fashion, Barry did not want any fuss made; by request, no service. If you wish to remember him through a charity, a donation to the Guide Dogs of Canada would make him smile "What better way than to give someone their freedom and a best friend at the same time." As a nephew aptly said, "Cleared for takeoff."
