Obituary

Joseph Charles "Joe" Huber passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 2, 2026, in Qualicum Beach, BC, at the age of 86.

Born in New Westminster on October 3, 1939, Joe spent his childhood and much of his adult life in Port Coquitlam, where he resided for an incredible 74 years on Victoria Drive. In his later years, he resided in Summerland, BC and Qualicum Beach, BC.

In 1963, Joe married the love of his life, Arlene. He hand-built the family home where they would spend the next five decades building cherished memories—a true testament to his craftsmanship. A skilled heavy-duty mechanic by trade, Joe worked at Ocean Cement and Finning before serving as Shop Foreman for the City of Port Coquitlam from 1976 until his retirement in 1997.

Joe’s passions were many; fishing, hunting, camping, and tinkering on old cars. He was especially proud of the Model A Ford he built and drove, often with a delighted grandchild or a lucky dog in the passenger seat. Joe was a jack of all trades and had almost every hand tool, power tool & gadget imaginable. Whether it was building or rebuilding projects, repairing things that needing fixing, tending to his vegetable gardens or cooking up his legendary “specials”, scrambled eggs or split pea soup and buns, Joe poured care into everything he touched. He appreciated music and found joy in playing the piano, guitar, and harmonica and even dabbled with the accordion. He was a fan of old Westerns and never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Joe went by many names— Joseph, Joe, Joey, Dad, Pa, Grampa, Gramps, Uncle Joe—no matter what you called him, he was always the same kind-hearted soul who would do anything for anyone. His life was defined by hard work, generosity, love, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Arlene; son-in-law Cameron; parents, August and Mabel; and brother, August (Buddy). He is survived by his children; Gary, Jacqueline (Steve), and David (Tanya); grandchildren Emily, Sage, Reece, and Colton; sisters, Pat and Margaret; and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

While he will be deeply missed, Joe’s legacy lives on through his family and the cherished memories he shared. His family takes comfort knowing he is reunited with Arlene, walking hand in hand through Heaven’s fields.

As Joe would often say with a shrug, “Que Sera Sera (What Will Be, Will be).”

Rest easy Dad, until we meet again…
