Marvin Brooks Barker

March 8, 1931 - August 26, 2026

After a brief illness, Dad passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026… in his own way and time.

He was born March 8, 1931 in Rockglen, Saskatchewan, the sixth child in a family of nine. Dad grew up in Killdeer and finished his high school in Moose Jaw. He was so very proud of his two brothers, Ken and Lloyd who gave their lives for Canada and the world in WWII. He loved and cherished his sisters and they thought the sun rose and set on their brother.

Dad married the love of his life, Carol (nee Arnold) on December 27, 1955. They had an adventure of living in Victoria, Regina, Rockglen, Beiseker, Strathmore, Calgary and for Dad, the past 14 years in Qualicum Beach and Parksville.

While in Victoria, his only son, Kevin, was born on March 18, 1957 married to Gayle, children Jaclyn(Paul) and Robert(Melissa), great grandson Weston; in Regina, Joanne arrived on November 5, 1959, married David, and Beverly (Beverley to Dad) (Babe to many family members) on March 28, 1967 with children Andrew(Taylor) and Christopher(Belen).

He was a daredevil, adventurer, entrepreneur, briefly a farmer in Lumsden, sportsman and all round great man with a mischievous side and a great sense of humour. He had so many lifelong friends from his Killdeer years that he kept in touch with throughout his long and varied life. In fact, everywhere he went he made new friends including many in Qualicum Beach through his golf, lawn bowling and cat sitting days. Everyone has a story to tell about Dad’s kindness, sense of humour, sense of fairness or even his not so great way with tools and such, though he did try. We ask that you remember and share them whenever you can.

We thank the staff at Arrowsmith Lodge for their care, compassion and kindness throughout Dad’s life there and in his passing.

He is survived by all of his children and their families, sisters Doris, Helen and Jean, sister-in-law Bev Arnold and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ken and Lloyd, an infant sister, Mildred, parents Bertha (nee Johnson) and Brooks, sisters, Anna and Edith.

Forever missed and loved.
