Michael Laffey Obituary Mr. Michael P. Laffey, known affectionately as Mike to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully at Trillium Lodge Parksville on April 10, 2025 after a courageous battle with liver cancer.
Born on August 27, 1954, in Toronto, Mike was a man whose adventurous spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Michael's early years in Toronto were marked by his exceptional talent in golf, a sport he excelled in from a young age. His passion for the game was only matched by his later interest in professional gambling, where he enjoyed a period of notable success.
However, Mike's passion for the great outdoors led him to pursue an education in Forestry and tree falling in Northern Ontario, setting the stage for what would become a successful and fulfilling career. As a skilled tree falling contractor, Mike's work took him to the rugged terrains of the BC interior and the picturesque landscapes of Vancouver Island. His commitment to his craft and the community he served was evident in the quality of his work and the relationships he built. Mike's professional life was more than a career; it was a calling that allowed him to connect with nature and the people who appreciated it.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mike was a man of many interests. He found joy in the thrill of gold mining, the serenity of boating, and the excitement of fishing. However, it was the time spent with his family that Mike cherished most. He was a devoted partner to his common-law wife, Louise Chabot, and a proud father to his son, Patrick J. Laffey. Mike's encouragement and support of Patrick's activities were unwavering, and his thoughtful guidance was a cornerstone of their relationship.
Michael was predeceased by his sister Michle his mother Marguerite Lucille and his father Francis James Laffey, who had instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity that he carried throughout his life.
Those who knew Mike would describe him as adventurous, thoughtful, and generous. He approached life with a sense of wonder and an eagerness to explore all it had to offer. Mike always said: "The only things you regret in life are the things you havent done". He leaves a trail of memories and stories that will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. As we bid farewell to Mr. Michael P. Laffey, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a legacy of kindness and adventure that will continue to inspire.
