Obituary

On September 18, 2025, Murray (Mike) Hooper passed away peacefully at home with his wife Barbara and daughter Tamarah by his side. Mike was born in Vancouver on April 21, 1945, and moved to Victoria in his late teens. He attended the Kootenay School of Art in Nelson and moved back to Victoria after graduation. Outside of work, he enjoyed renovating his home, riding his Harley, building his '53 Chevy, and taking on the position of President with both the Vancouver Island Street Rod Association and the Royal Glenora Figure Skating Club. He was known to many as "Mike of all trades" and was willing to help anyone at the drop of a hat, never expecting anything in return. He worked for 25 years at the DND in Esquimalt before retiring in 1995. Mike was blessed to realize his dream of retiring to Qualicum Beach to live a more relaxed lifestyle. He loved his time golfing as a member of the Eaglecrest Golf Club and was surprised the day he finally got his hole in one!! This man of few words had a great sense of humour that stayed with him till the end. He cherished his family and was loved beyond measure by those who called him a friend. Mike was predeceased by both of his parents (Dorothy and Edward) and his brothers (Edward and Geoff). He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Hooper, three daughters, Michelle (John) Deveau, Sabrina (Eric) D'Amour, and Tamarah (Kevin) Cassidy: 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and his dear friend, Beverly Hart, whom he considered his adopted daughter.

In his later years, Mike became a born again believer in Jesus Christ. The family is at peace knowing that Heaven holds a new joy with him in the arms of his Saviour. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends until we see him again.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2026.
