Noella was born in Port Alberni on June 18, 1959, to Lyle and Vivian Hopps. She graduated High School in 1977, after already being a mother to Glen. Justin and Anita followed close behind. She was an independent woman and raised them on her own until 1994 when she met the love of her life, Harry Ross, and on June 10, 1995, they were married. For the next 30 years, they built a life and a home in Parksville. They spent a lot of those years camping and traveling with their fellow camping buddies. She convinced Harry to go on a cruise and they had the time of their lives. Places like Barbados, Bahamas, Mexico, and many places in the USA, including the Oregon Coast.
Noella took on the role of Mother to her two grandchildren Julia and Lucas and raised them in a loving home. It was a very unselfish act and they both have grown into amazing humans. They thank her for that and will miss her.
She began her working career as a bookkeeper at Sears at a young age and then was a housekeeper at Island Health. When the housekeeping department was being dismantled, she took a care aid course and never looked back. She loved it and loved to be such a help to her clients and coworkers.
Noella loved her hummingbirds, with many of them hanging in her home. Harry set up some feeders in the front yard so she could watch them come in and fight the bees off. Her little trinkets made the house a home. Like her sister Lorraine said, "Like a crow, anything shiny."
Noella was a very active member of the community. She was a Legion Member, a previous Eagles member, Topps, and Club 13. Noella was an incredible darts player since the mid-80s, winning many championships over the years.
There will be a memorial held on November 29, 2024, at the Parksville Legion from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Light lunch will be provided. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Comox Hospital for all their support throughout the year. We truly appreciate them.
