Patrick Frederick
Hadley
Mar 17, 1929 — Jun 22, 2026
Sadly, after a long 97 plus years, it was time to say goodbye to Pat Hadley on June 22, 2026.
Patrick Frederick Hadley was born in Ottawa ON on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17 1929. He was raised as an only child and had fond memories of growing up in Ottawa. Often on a Saturday his father would take him to Woolworths on Sparks Street and treat him to a banana split and so began Pat’s lifelong love of ice cream. As a teenager he loved skating on the Rideau Canal.
Pat’s career began with the BF Goodrich Company where he was a very successful store manager in Ottawa, Niagara Falls, St Catharines and Peterborough. Pat met his best friend, Hugh Withers (d. 1986) during their days at Goodrich and they later both left Goodrich and joined Peter Munk at Clairtone where they worked in sales. In the late 1960’s, Pat and Hugh started their own business, Withers Evans, the Canadian distributor of the Craig Car Stereo. In 1971 the Hadley and Withers families left Ottawa and moved to the Vancouver area to extend their business.
Pat and Marilyn (Ronlund) were married in 1989 and they moved to Qualicum Beach in 1990 where he was active in the QBRA in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. They bought a boat and spent many hours fishing off French Creek and in the Alberni Inlet. He loved to garden and had a beautiful flower and vegetable garden which he shared with the neighbours.
Pat was a regular letter writer to the PQB News and as a watchdog tried his best to hold Council’s feet to the fire. He was a member of the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club and enjoyed many games over the years. He was an associate member of the QB Legion and could be found playing snooker with the “Snooker Boys” several times a week.
After Marilyn retired in 2000 they vacationed for several years in Maui and Mexico and enjoyed many cruises, making lifelong friends along the way. In 2002 Pat and Marilyn made a trip to Ontario, visiting the cities where Pat had lived in his early years. It was a wonderful trip and Pat did a great job showing Marilyn around his part of the country and the homes he previously lived in, including in Kanata ON. He always liked to tell people that he was the 17th resident of Kanata (population now close to 100,000).
Pat was an avid sports fan and even though he had been in BC for over 50 years, the Montreal Canadians were still “his” hockey team. He loved to watch Yankee games as well as football, tennis and golf – actually anything that moved. He loved the musical group, El Divo and sent copies of their CD’s to friends in Alaska and New Jersey so they could enjoy their music as well.
Pat was predeceased by his parents, Harry James and Florence Ethel (Knight) Hadley and infant brother, Harry Albert Hadley; his son-in-law, Robert Keith Wyllie (1989); grandson Keith Colin Wyllie (2008); all his Golf Buddies and the QB Legion “Snooker Boys” as well as many friends and neighbours. He is survived by Marilyn, his loving wife of 37 years; sons Bruce Hadley; Neil (Louise), grandsons, Miles and Michael Hadley; daughter, Ruth (Phil) and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Ackerman (Logan Kirkness) as well as his Ronlund in-laws, Don and Mel, Linda, Dave and Isabel as well as nieces and nephews and their families.
No service by request but a gathering of family and friends will be held on August 29 2026. If you plan to attend please RSVP to mehadley@shaw.ca for details. Cremation has taken place and at Pat’s request, his ashes will be placed next to his parents in Ottawa.
Memories are the albums that hold yesterday’s treasures. Sleep well, my Love. Thank you for sharing part of your life with me.
