Robert Brooks Obituary Robert (Bob) Bruce Brooks passed away peacefully in his 95th year on January 1, 2025, in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
He was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, to Clare and Kathleen Brooks, and brother to Bill, all predeceased. The family later moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where Bob spent his formative years. Graduating from high school, he found permanent employment with the Steel Company of Canada (Stelco).
There, he met M. Joyce Lankester (predeceased) whom he married in 1954 and had three children Greg (Vera), Carrie (Alex) and Tom (Karen). In 1965, Bob was transferred to Sudbury, Ontario, where he became Stelcos regional sales representative. This work took him to many of the famous mining camps in northern Ontario and western Quebec. Bob loved telling stories about these camps, the personalities he dealt with, trips underground, as well as other adventures.
Retiring after 35 years service, Bob and Joyce retired to Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, thriving in the west coast lifestyle. Here, they made many new friends and got involved in the community, including a key role in the restoration of the Qualicum Beach train station, and volunteering with the SOS, COPS and more.
An avid golfer, Bob loved the long golfing season on Vancouver Island, playing regularly well into his late 80s, and even scoring a hole-in-one.
He always enjoyed closely following the lives of his adored grandchildren Avery, Wiley, Nick, Camilla, Laura, Hadley, Haidyn, Will and Jordan.
A kind person with a sunny disposition, Bob will be warmly remembered by the many people he interacted with over his life.
The family thanks the care givers from Seren Home Support Services, Nurse Next Door, and Chartwell/Avenir for their support during Bobs very late years.
They especially thank Linda Douglas for her kindness and support of Bob and for being a close friend.
Bobs life will be celebrated in a private gathering.
