Robert Idell
Sheffield
April 25, 1944 – May 2, 2026
Dr. Robert (Bob) I. Sheffield
Bob was born on April 25, 1944, in Prince Albert, Sk.and passed away on May 2, 2026 in Nanaimo, B.C.
He graduated in 1970 from the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine. Bob went on to practice medicine for thirty-seven years in an associate clinic in Cranbrook,BC. Following his long career, he spent ten years doing locums, a path that eventually led him to Parksville, where he made his final home in retirement.
Bob was a quiet, gentle, and kind man, with a deep passion for his family, his medical career, and the activities he loved—music, golf, and, of course, pickleball. He felt a strong commitment to giving back to his community, and in recognition of his contributions, he was honoured as Cranbrook’s Citizen of the Year in 1978.
In retirement, Bob embraced life fully. He and Irene enjoyed travelling in their RV and spent winters in Indio, California, their second home. There, he played drums in a rock band called the Bucket List, took up the ukulele, and sang in a choir.
All of these rich experiences were shared with his beloved wife and best friend, Irene, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Bob was immensely proud of his family: his son Scott (Kirsten), daughter Leah (Barry), and his cherished grandchildren Danika (Jamie), Jordan, Erin (Corbin), Liam, and Zoe (Josh).
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Idell and Jean, and his sister Leigh. He held great affection for his nieces and nephews, as well as his special brother-in-law, Dan (Sharon).
A service for Bob will be held on May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Nanoose Bay, BC.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bell, Dr. Fridriksson, and the Home Care and Palliative Care teams in Parksville and Nanaimo for their exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the BC Cancer Society.
