SEAN KENNEDY  JANUARY 21, 1956- AUGUST 29, 2025 It is with much sadness that we note the passing of Sean Kennedy after an 18 month battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme. Sean was the only child of Joyce (Jo) Stimpson of Melbourne, Australia and Patrick Kennedy of Montreal, P.Q.. He was born in Vancouver but grew up in New Zealand, following the death of his biological father. In New Zealand, Jo married widower Arnold Foster who already had two daughters— gaining Sean sisters and local extended family. Sean returned to British Columbia in his early twenties and bounced around the province for a decade, usually on his much loved motorcycle, as well as travelling extensively in Europe and Scandinavia, before attending U.B.C. where he obtained a B.A. in French and German. Afterward, he spent his career in the film industry's transportation department. Sean was a character, a story-teller who loved being around people, and there was hardly a language or a joke he heard that he didn't like. Over the years he continued studying languages, and ultimately was fluent in French, German, Russian and Latin aside from his native English. He could make his way respectably in Irish, and had a working knowledge of Maori as well. Sean is survived by his partner of 29 years, Jill, her children Craig (Ursula) and Morgan, Ursula's children Eli and Matt, and extended family Eileen, Tiffany and Theo. Special mention goes to his beloved granddaughter, Emilie, the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his sisters and their families: Valerie in New Zealand, and Robyn (Tahir) in Australia, as well as his numerous friends and second family: Teamsters 155 in Vancouver, many of whom were helpful and present during Sean's illness and afterward (for which we remain deeply grateful). Thanks to the medical helpers: neurosurgery staff at VGH, who gave Sean precious time, his Island Health doctors, Gabriola home care nurses, whose advocacy and support were so deeply appreciated, the kind Gabriola first responders, Gabriola Grub Huggers/Meals on Wheels, the Cancer Agency volunteer drivers in Langley and Nanaimo, the NRGH Palliative Care team and volunteers, and the health care team and volunteers at Oceanside Hospice who made Sean's last days as comfortable and comforting as possible. Special thank you to Graham Myrfield of Qualicum Beach Memorial Services for being so helpful and kind following Sean's passing.
