Sheila Marteny Emmens, of Errington, BC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, at the age of 97 years.

Sheila will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all her family and wonderful friends near and far.

Sheila is survived by her sister Jean in New Zealand and was predeceased by her sister Dorothy in Australia in 2025. She was also predeceased by her husband Alan Emmens in 2012 and her first husband Harley Hawes in 1981.

Sheila led a simple yet extraordinary and vibrant life, lived to the absolute fullest. Her dedicated nursing career spanned both the UK and Canada, including work in Midwifery and a specialization in Pediatrics. Sheila’s adventurous and fearless spirit carried her across the globe on many worldly travels.

With a compassionate heart for those in need, Sheila devoted countless hours to volunteering within her Errington community and beyond. She was a wonderful homemaker, an avid reader with a lifelong thirst for knowledge, and she found joy in her sewing room—her gifted hands creating with love for others.

Sheila was a devout Christian, serving faithfully at St. Anne & St. Edmund Anglican Church, Parksville for many years. She also held a deep love and appreciation for nature, conservation, and all animals great and small.

Sheila was predeceased by her husband Alan Emmens of Errington in 2012 and her first husband Harley Hawes of Pritchard, BC in 1981.
