Shelley MacDonald Obituary Shelley Lyn MacDonald (ne Shelley Lyn Harvey) December 6th, 1961- December 4th, 2024 At the age of 62, on December 4th, 2024, after a decade of persevering through the challenges of living with Cancer, Shelley Lyn MacDonald passed on peacefully, with her family lovingly by her side. Shelley was strong-willed and resilient, and throughout her Cancer journey, she prioritized making the most of every day she could. "Live your best life", was her motto, to which she lived true to until her last day. Though she will be greatly missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at rest and free from pain. Shelley was born in 1961 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and was raised on a farm in the little town of Birchton. In 1981, at the age of 20, she graduated from Champlain College, in Lennoxville and moved across the country to Burnaby, British Columbia. In the Lower Mainland (Vancouver area), she worked as a support worker in group homes for those who had developmental disabilities. Shelley met her future husband, Scott MacDonald, in the spring of 1982, while visiting her Aunt Kathy on Vancouver Island, Kathys boyfriend (now Husband) was Scotts brother Bruce. Scott and Shelley were married in 1984 in Qualicum Beach. Despite missing her family and the Eastern fall leaves, the love of her life and the West Coast captured her heart. She kept the Quebecois culture and the French language close and enrolled her daughters in the French Immersion program. If you were lucky when attending the MacDonald household you would get authentic poutine and real maple syrup treats. Shelley and Scott followed Scotts work around the province of British Columbia to towns such as; Tumbler Ridge, Chetwyn (where Scott somehow found a store to buy her an engagement ring, to which she subsequently lost and then located in a gravel pit in Tumbler Ridge), Deep Cove, Richmond, and Campbell River to name a few. Shelley and Scott settled in Qualicum Beach, where Scott had spent his teenage years, and raised their daughters and enjoyed 40 years of marriage. Shelley worked in assisted living centres as an activity coordinator. It was not her "job" it was her passion. She loved organizing special casino days, fishing trips, crafts and outings with her clients. Shelley also spent many years volunteering her time, she was president of the French Immersion PAC, president of the Ravensong Waterdancers Synchronized Swimming club and chaperoned many field trips. Shelley spent many years volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society even in years prior to her diagnosis. She was always ready to lend a hand. In Shelleys free time you could find her enjoying one of her many outdoor passions, from kayaking trips, to downhill skiing, golfing, hiking the surrounding trails and mountains, camping, and soaking in Qualicum Beachs beautiful sunsets. Shelley was an active member of the Qualicum Beach Curling Club and used her amazing imagination to come up with great costumes for the themed bonspiels. Shelley had a passion for international travel, from an African Safari, Perus Machu Picchu to the Galapagos Islands; she was up for almost any type of adventure including skydiving and hot air balloons. She also enjoyed hosting travelers and exchange students from all over the world. Shelley was known for her open-door policy; everyone was welcome in her home. She cherished time with her family and friends and always wanted to share the incredible joy she felt for life. Because she was an avid photographer, we are fortunate to have many of her celebrated memories captured on "film". The walls in our homes are blessed with the Sunsets of Qualicum Beach and the animals of Africa. Shelley is survived by, husband G Scott MacDonald; children, Stacy MacDonald and husband Tomy Vzina, Amber MacDonald and partner Nathan Cherrier; grandchildren, Graham and Amlie Vzina, and Mia Cherrier; mother Margaret Wright; sisters, Laurie Clark and Marlene Harvey, and brother Steven Harvey; and survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased in death by father Merlin and daughter Hayley. Shelleys Celebration of Life will be held July 15, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
