Shirley passed away peacefully with family by her side December 24, 2025 at Arrowsmith Lodge.
Predeceased by her husband David and her sister Hazel she is survived by her children, Barbara, Debra, Belinda(Eric), Frederick(Milynne), and Michael(Cathie), 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren
Shirley grew up on the northwest coast of B.C. with siblings Hazel and Steve. They moved to Terrace when she was five. Shirley married Dave in 1955 and moved with the family to the Chilcotin in 1965. They moved to Vancouver Island in 1975.
Shirley was happiest among children, fostered 3 children and was a Teacher's Aide for 20 years at Qualicum Beach Elementary, where she organized the 'Jump Rope for Heart' fundraiser program for many of those years. She had lasting positive impact on many of her students.
Shirley was an avid reader, prolific knitter and very involved in community activities. Her hobbies included travel, gardening, curling, watercolour painting, miniature flower arrangements and Dining Discoveries. She was a great contributor to the local fall fair and won prizes for her preserves and pickles, always encouraging grandchildren to participate with their creations.
She was a faithful correspondent with a wide circle of friends with whom she kept in touch using her award winning hand writing, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary.
Her last years were spent at Arrowsmith Lodge amongst caring, loving and positive caregivers.
