Thomas (Tom) Patterson Obituary In Loving Memory Of Thomas (Tom) Michael Patterson Tom passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC surrounded by family and friends on June 4, 2024 at the age of 70. He was born on September 16, 1953 in his family home in Bishop's Falls, NL and most recently resided in Qualicum Beach, BC. Tom had a genuine passion for gardening and cooking, finding joy in nurturing plants, experimenting with flavors in the kitchen and baking his moms famous cherry cake. His love for Asian cuisine, particularly Chinese dumplings, was well-known among family and friends. A devoted and compassionate nurse, Tom dedicated his career to caring for others. He was a graduate of Western Memorial Nursing School in Corner Brook, NL. Patients and their families praised him for his kindness and unwavering compassion. His colleagues proclaim that he was one of the absolute best. During the AIDS crisis, following a nursing shift, Tom would often go above and beyond, staying at the bedside of dying patients to provide comfort when they had no family present. Family was everything to Tom and he cherished spending time with his loved ones and his loyal dogs, Bailey and Kasey. His favorite places in the world were his home in Qualicum Beach and his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador. In his free time, Tom enjoyed watching shows like The View, Chek News, and NTV Channel. He also followed tennis closely and would passionately cheer for anyone playing against Novak Djokovic. Anecdotes of Tom's adventures were plentiful, with one notable incident being the time he saved a man's life on the beach while on vacation on the island of Tenerife. Tom's impact on the lives of others was immeasurable, bringing comfort, kindness, and his infectious sense of humor to everyone he encountered. Tom leaves behind a legacy of compassionate care and a heart filled with joy and kindness. He will be deeply missed by his loving spouse, Nigel, as well as his siblings William (Sandra), Margaret, Christine (Luke), Mary, and Kathy (Chris). He was cherished by Nigels parents Ian and Pat, and siblings Louise (Mike), Sarah, and Jennifer (Bruce). His memory will also be treasured by his aunt Sister Ruth and uncles Joe and Des, as well as countless in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents James and Catherine, his siblings Ron, Ethel, Alice and Ambrose, his nephew Paul and great niece Sydney. In honor of Tom's love for gardening, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, a tree be planted to remember him. Let his memory live on through the beauty of nature, just as his caring nature will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace Tom, knowing that your beautiful legacy of compassion and love will continue to inspire us all. A celebration of life will be held for Tom at his home in Qualicum Beach on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Please RSVP to Nigel at nigelcavanagh@gmail.com at which time details will be provided.
