Vera May
Fair
October 1, 1949 – October 18, 2025
Vera May Fair was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, auntie, great auntie, and joyous friend to so many! She made the courageous decision to relieve her suffering and peacefully left us on Saturday, October 18, supported and held by her son and daughter.
Vera May was born on October 1, 1949 in Lloydminster, SK, the youngest of 5 children, to Bill and Edna Fair. She grew up as Daddy's little girl, and loved to share her memories of weekends with him at an early age, roaming his shop. It was evident her spirit of adventure began early with this, and Sunday family car rides. She also fondly recalled her best years at high school, and working at the local theatre with a close friend. She met her husband, Dennis Bymak, when good friends set them up on a blind date. They married soon after in 1972. Her son, Stefan was born in 1975, and daughter, Marnie in 1976. In her last days, she expressed that having her children was the greatest achievement of her life. They moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1978 to be near extended Bymak family, and also started their own insurance business. She recalled her 20 years in Saskatchewan not quite as fondly, (to be as candid as she was!) but she wouldn't have traded it for anything, as she developed significant lifelong and memorable relationships with loving family and amazing friends, while also dedicating herself to good times with curling, slow-pitch, and golf.
Vera May returned to Calgary in 1996, where she serendipitously met her adoring and devoted wife, Krista Hummell. They married on April 29, 2006, in a beautiful ceremony at the Scarboro United Church, and shared many exceptional times together until Krista died in 2014. Her loss and absence was heartbreaking, and very deeply felt.
Vera May was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis later in life, at the age of 59. She moved to Parksville with her wife 2 years later, in 2010, to be able to get around with more ease. She was immensely determined when she really wanted something, and defiantly refused to let the MS keep her from anything she loved.
Some of her favourite precious memories included a shared love of baseball with her son, and their trip to Fenway Park, as well as a majestic cruise to Alaska with her daughter and daughter in law, filled with unforgettable amusement and laughter.
Family, friends, food, sports, and travel were at the heart of Vera May's life. If you knew her, you definitely laughed with her, indulged in a decadent meal at a fancy restaurant with her, played sports or cards with her, or went along on an endless adventure with her. She made friends where ever she went!
She will be forever known for her incredible thoughtfulness, generosity, love of sports, eccentric and entertaining humour, and sense of adventure. She was a remarkable life-loving woman!
Vera May is predeceased by her wife, Krista; mother, Edna, father, Bill, brother, Vernon, and sister, Wilma, who she was excited to be reunited with! She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marnie; her son, Stefan and his wife, Chrystal, along with their children: grandson, Caleb and his wife, Roma, granddaughter, Isla, and grandson, Noah; sister, Luella and her husband, George; brother, John and his wife, Claudia. Vera May was also blessed to have special relationships with several nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her. Shane and Kelly Fair; Cheryl Baker, Ronald Crooker, and Beverley Paulhus; Stefanie and Lori Halldorson; and Selena Jones.
Flowers, cards or any gifts are all are politely declined. If you feel inclined to honor her in any way, please carry forward Vera May's generosity & thoughtfulness to others who may need it.
