Anne Cotton (Anne Nichols Nee Redmond)
She loved life. She loved family and friends. She loved nature. Anne Beryl Redmond was born on July 15th 1923 to John and Mabel Redmond on a farm south of Beechy, Saskatchewan. The middle of five children, she often talked about all the fun they had as a family. Her parents were hard working and resourceful, and this rubbed off on Anne. At 18, with only a couple of months of teacher training, she was asked to fill in at a one room school with 30 students from grades one to ten where some of the boys were older than she was! She had several other teaching assignments before getting a permanent grade one position in Rossland, BC. Soon after arriving in Rossland she married Ab (Albert) Nichols and started her family. The family did a lot together and with friends...picnics, hikes, camping, group dinners. Sadly, Ab passed away in 1984. Lots of walking and companionship with her many friends and trips helped through this time. In 1990 Anne married Richard (Dick) Cotton. Throughout her life, Anne was very involved in the church and the community serving on many committees and was one of the first to welcome newcomers to the community. When she wasn’t teaching, helping others and doing committee work, she had multiple projects underway as she loved to garden, sew, knit, paint and read. Unfortunately, Macular Degeneration made many of these hobbies difficult for the past decade but she remained cheerful and outgoing. Students that she taught more than 70 years ago still have fond memories of her. All who knew her comment on her friendship, her appreciativeness and especially her quick wit.
Anne passed away February 25th 2021. She was predeceased by all her siblings, Ruth, Bruce, Norah and Jim, her husbands Ab and Dick and one of her twin daughters Victoria. She is missed and remembered by her children Tom and Valerie, a stepson Jim, nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and her many relatives and friends.
