Janet’s life ended peacefully.
The daughter of Elise and Jorgen Casperson who hailed from Norway, Janet was born and raised in Bella Coola, B.C.
Janet lived in Alice Arm, Prince Rupert, and South Bentinck as a young mother. She and Howard raised their two daughters at Juskatla and Port Clements on Haida Gwaii. She also lived in Port Hardy, Parksville, Courtenay, Sandspit, Granisle, and Qualicum Beach, B.C.
Coastal girl, island girl; Janet was comfortable with anybody and consistently opened her home and heart to all.
A beachcomber, a rockhound; always curious about plant and animal life, Janet was deeply connected to the sea and adored its mysteries and gifts. She enjoyed camping, swimming, entertaining friends, travelling, and hunting for bottles or oddities in long-deserted homesteads around Haida Gwaii and junk shops wherever she roamed. Square porcelain plates, mossy textures, pebbles, people, vibrant textiles – nothing escaped her attention, appreciation, or love.
Janet, the gentlest caregiver, coziest homemaker, most creative seamstress, kitchen goddess extraordinaire. She had patience in abundance. She was incredibly loving and reliable; rock-solid in her compassion for others. She will always be missed.
The family would like to thank the Eagle Park & Gardens facilities staff who gave special attention to Janet’s needs and concerns. We are grateful to relatives and friends, too numerous to list, who were able to tenuously connect with her during her final years ‘in care’. Janet’s dear friends who often checked in on her despite the challenges - you eased our heartbreak, softened the crushing blow that cognitive decline delivers, and smoothed Janet’s bumpy journey. We are ever so grateful.
Janet loved music and dance. She was a self-taught piano and accordion player – feel free to remember her by supporting music and dance in your community, particularly in long-term care settings.
