Maryann Esson

Funeral Celebrant / Grief Counsellor

Hello, my name is Maryann Esson, and I like to go by Mary. I am what is known as a Funeral Celebrant. A Funeral Celebrant is a nondenominational clergy, or Funeral Officiant that creates ceremonies with or without rituals. As a Funeral Celebrant I will work with you to create a ritual or a ceremony that will reflect your loved one’s values, and what made them shine. Together we will gather information to create a nonreligious ceremony that will express the value of your loved one.

I am semi-retired with Certification in Grieving and Bereavement as well as a Certified Funeral Celebrant. The skills that I have accumulated in over 30 years as a Clinical Counsellor is transformed into the ability to connect, create and build a ceremony that will reflect the intertwined lives of all those your loved one touched. During my career I aided others in navigating life’s challenges and facilitating change. As a Funeral Celebrant I am able to use all of my experiences and transform them into a connection that supports those in deep sorrow. To me this feels like a natural evolution in my own helping journey to stand with those that face the biggest challenge of our life: Grief.

I have experienced many different ceremonies that ranged from simple and quiet to Traditional Coast Salish ceremonies. It is my honor to be invited into your homes to share precious memories so we can weave a ceremony that touches our hearts and soul, feel the deep connection with the one we love so deeply. My compassion and life experiences are perfectly matched to connect with you at this moment in time. To guide you through this transformation of your relationship with your loved one. A shift in perception.

I have been a member of the French Creek Community for over 7 years now and feel grateful each and everyday for our cozy community. I love to be near the water and enjoy seeing all of the wildlife our area brings. I look forward in meeting you in the future.
